Randy has nearly four decades of experience working in the county assessor's office in Polk County, Iowa, where he currently serves as County Assessor. He is an Iowa Certified Assessor and Certified General Real Property Appraiser in the state of Iowa. He also holds the CAE (Certified Assessment Evaluator) designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). He is a Past-President of the IAAO (2017) and a Past President of the Institute of Iowa Certified Assessors. Randy is an approved instructor for the Iowa Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board. He is also a Senior Instructor for IAAO.

Randy has held numerous leadership positions at IAAO, most recently as President. He has served as Chair of IAAO's Governance Committee, as well as worked on the Education Subcommittee, the Professional Designations Subcommittee, the Audit Committee, Grading Committee and Budget Committee. In 2011 he was named IAAO's Professional Designee of the Year. In 2023, Randy was nominated as an IAAO Fellow with the FIAAO designation.
